As Salaamu’Alaikum

Dear Young Muslims,

Today we will talk about Adhan. This is a very useful information. We should all learn it insha'Allah.

Do you know what is Adhan?

It is the call for Salah (prayers) 5 times a day. If you live in Canada or the US or any country that is not Muslim….you don’t usually hear the Adhan 5 times a day. But if you go to a Muslim country you do hear it….5 times a day. Why do Muslims do Adhan?

The reason for Adhan is to remind everyone that it’s time for Salah and so no one will have an excuse or will say I forgot or something.

What do we say in Adhan?

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar - Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.

Ashhadu an la ilaha illa llah - I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Hayya `ala `s-salah - Come to Prayer.

Hayya ala' `f-alah - Come to well being.

Allahu akbar, Alahu akbar - Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.

La ilaha illah `llah - There is no god but Allah.

Can someone say the Adhan even if he is not an Imaam? Yes if you want to say it at home or somewhere else not at the Masjid.

What is the reward for saying the Adhan?

The Prophet [peace be upon him] said that those who say Adhan and call people for Salah, Allah will be the nicest to them. Also, if you recite Adhan, all those who hear it will say on day of judgement to Allah that they heard you say it and you will get Hasanat for it. Here is a hadith for you:

A man was walking and saw Abu Said al Khudry and Abu Said said to him: “I see that you love sheep and the desert. When you are among your sheep or in your desert, call the prayer and raise your voice in the adhan, because I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'No jinn or man oranything within range hears the voice of the muadhdhin except that it bears witness for him on the day of rising.' ”

What happens to Shaitan when we say Adhan?

The prophet [peace be upon him] said that whenever the Adhan is recited the Shaitan runs away as fast as he could so that he will not hear the Adhan until it is finished then he comes again. And when you stand for Salah and say "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, Ash’hadu an la ilaha illa Allah, Ash’hadu ana Mohammadan rasool Allah, Hayya alassalah, hayya alal falah…Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, La ilaha ila Allah" ….then he runs again until you finish that then he comes back.

What to do when we hear Adhan?

When you hear Adhan you should say exactly the same words as you hear them except when you hear “Hayya ala al Salah and Hayya Ala al falah” you should say “La Hawla wala Quwata Ela belAllah” which means there is no might nor power except with Allah

What do we say after Adhan?

“Allahuma Rabba Hatheehi al da’awaty al tamma wal salaty al qa’ema. Aa-tea Mohammadan al waseelata wal fadeela, wab’ath-hu maqaman mahmodan Alathee wa’ad-tah en-naka la tokhlefo al me’ad.”

This means” O Allah, Owner of this perfect call, and Owner of this prayer to be performed, bestow (give) upon Mohammad al waseela (which is a place in Jannah) and al fadeelah (which is a rank or place above all creations) and send him upon a praised platform (this is where he will stand and ask Allah to judge people after people stay waiting for so long) which you have promised him. Verily, You never fail in Your promise.”

What else to do after Adhan?

Make du’a. Because the prophet [peace be upon him] said that one of the times the du’a is quickly answered is between Adhan and the Salah. As soon as you are finished your du’a, go pray. Because Allah loves Salah to be done on time.

SubhanaAllah. Don’t you just love the Adhan. It sounds very beautiful and peaceful.

Assalamu Alikom wa Rahmatu Allah
