As Salaamu’Alaikum
Dear Young Muslims,
Today’s story-lesson is about: Charity Without Money
It was a beautiful Friday morning. Khalid's Mom told her dear son: "Khalid dear! You're late for salatul Jum'ah (Friday Prayer). Wear clean clothes and put perfume on, because you're going to the masjid to pray to Allah, and so you must wear your best clothes".
"But, Mom..." said Khalid, "It's a bit early to go to Friday Prayer! The khutbah (sermon) hasn't started yet!"
Khalid's Mom replied: "My son, Friday prayer has great virtue and reward from Allah, and the earlier you go to the masjid, the more reward you'll get!"
Khalid understood why his Mom told him to go early, and so he decided to go. He told his Mom "Assalamu Alaikum" and left the house after he got all ready.
While on his way, Khalid saw an old man walking slowly. The old man's vision was weak, so he didn't see a piece of glass that was in front of him and was about to step on it. Khalid thought quickly and wanted to help the man so he yelled out: "SIR STOP DON'T MOVE "
The old man stopped and looked towards the direction of Khalid's voice. He blinked a few times and stared so hard to try to see Khalid. The old man then said: "Who are you, young man? And what do you want from me?"
"My name is Khalid, and I wanted to warn you before you step on the piece of glass and possibly harm yourself!" Khalid then bent down, picked up the piece of broken glass, and put it in the trash.
The old man smiled and said: "Thank you son."
Khalid replied with a smile "I only did my duty Sir. Muslims are there for each other!"
The old man then said: "You must have been heading for the masjid, because you smell very nice. You know son, on this blessed day, you've gained a reward from Allah and you've done an act of charity."
Khalid was suprised! "How did I do charity when I didn't give any money??"
The old man said "Our beloved Prophet - peace be upon him - taught us that removing harm from the street is an act of charity".
Khalid smiled and was very happy. He said "Assalamu Alaikum" to the old man who taught him a great lesson, and went on his way to the masjid so that he may arrive early and get a great reward.
So my dear Young Muslims...what did we all learn ?
Going early to salatul Jum'ah gives you a greater reward than going late.
It's preferred that you wear your best clothes to the masjid...and if you're a boy, it's preferred to put perfume (not girls...if you're wondering why, send us an e-mail and we'll tell you!).
We should be nice to others and we should help elder Muslims.
Taking harm off the street is an act of charity and is of great reward!
Oh! And remember to use "Assalamu Alaikum" instead of Hi and Bye like Khalid did!
