Three
Duties of Each Muslim
Da’wah
Da’wah means to call
to others. The person telling about Islam is called a Da’i or Caller.
“Call
people to the path of your Lord with wisdom and inspiring speech. Reason with
them in a superior and respectful manner. Certainly
your Lord knows best who strays from His path and who is guided.”
(6:125)
Jihad
Jihad means to
struggle or strive, or work for something with determination.
A physical Jihad is for furthering the cause of Allah and creating
justice on Earth. The Prophet (PBUH) said, “You have left a lesser Jihad
(battle), now you are coming to a greater Jihad, the struggle against
yourself.”
Physical Jihad can
be initiated for three reasons:
To
defend the Muslim community against aggression
To
eliminate an evil force that is oppressing people
To
remove a barrier to free flow of Islamic Da’wah
Encouraging the Good and
Forbidding the Evil
In
our daily lives as Muslims we must not compromise with what is wrong.
Allah
has said,
“
You who believe, stand up firmly for justice as witnesses before Allah and even
(be a fair witness) against yourselves or your parents or your relatives also,
And whether it’s (against) the rich or poor, too, because Allah can protect
both sides best.
Don’t
follow the lusts (of your hearts) lest you swerve and if you distort (the truth)
or decline to do justice, Allah is indeed aware of everything you do.” (4:135)
The
right or good is called Maroof.
Evil
or bad ways is called Munkar.
