Grandma’s Sugar Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups white flour
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup soft butter or margarine
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. Almond flavoring
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts, or pecans

Method

Combine flour, salt & baking powder. With an electric mixer at medium-low speed, beat the butter & sugar until light & fluffy. Beat in egg & almond flavoring. Slowly stir in flour and chopped nuts until well mixed (dough may be slightly sticky). Place the mixture on plastic or foil paper, wrap tightly and refrigerate for an hour or two or even overnight. (Cookie dough will keep in the refrigerator for up to one week).

Remove the dough from foil. Squeeze off 1/3 of the dough. Smooth into a ball and place on a flat surface covered in flour. With a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1 inch thickness. The dough should be in the shape of a flat circle. With cookie cutters of your choice, cut the dough and then place the cutout cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in a preheated oven of 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until the bottom of the cookie is golden brown.

Cool for 30 minutes and then frost each cookie with a butter creme frosting. Add coconut, colored sprinkles, or colored sugar for decorations.
