As Salaamu’Alaikum

Dear Young Muslims,

Today’s story-lesson is a long one so be patient, relax and be sure to read it all. You will be so happy that you did!

PROPHET SALIH

Just like every other group, the tribe of Thamud came after the tribe of Ad and they too were strong and powerful. Obviously, if Allah sent them Prophet Salih…then surly they did worship idols and asnam. They were also very rich and they were very evil.

Thus, Allah sent them Prophet Salih who also told them just like every other prophet, to worship only Allah and to not pray for these idols. Again Thamud harmed him and didn’t believe him. Some people did believe him…but not many. Then, the Kafirs decided to let him do something hard so that he will be busy and not teach people about Allah. They said to him…make some miracle…something amazing happen. They said…let a female camel come from the mountains! (They knew that there were no camels in the mountains and they thought that he wouldn’t be able to do this and therefore they will not believe him!)

But Allah was on Salih’s side. And a camel did come from the mountains. One day when the people were all gathered….the kafirs pointed to a rock and said ok “Let your Lord make another female camel which must be 10 months pregnant, tall, beautiful from this rock!” Salih said, “Will you believe in Allah if He sends the camel from this rock like you said…?” They said “yes”. Indeed Allah could do it and He did let a camel come out of the rock! The camel was so beautiful and they were so amazed. They saw a great thing, a wonderful sight and a powerful evidence! Many now believed in Allah…but most of them didn’t!

At first, the people of Thamud were greatly surprised when the she camel issued from the mountain rocks. It was a blessed camel, and its milk sufficient for thousands of men, women and children. If it slept in a place that place was abandoned by other animals. Thus it was obvious that is was not an ordinary camel, but one of Allah's signs. It lived among Salih's people, some of whom believed in Allah while the majority continued in to disbelieve him. But because they hated Salih….they hated the camel too, and they decided to kill it.

Salih was afraid that they would kill it and he said to them: “This she camel of Allah is a sign to you, leave her to feed on Allah's earth, and touch her not with evil lest a near torment will seize you." (Ch 11:64 Quran)

For awhile, Salih's people let the camel graze and drink freely, but in their hearts they hated it and finally they plotted to kill the camel. One day when the camel was drinking from the water, they shot it in the leg with an arrow. The camel tried to escape but was shot with tones of more arrows. Finally someone hit the camel with a sword and she died. The people were happy…but the Muslims and Salih knew Allah would punish those Kafirs for what they did. Salih said: “Enjoy life for 3 more days then the punishment of Allah will come.”

"Why 3 days?" they asked. "Let the punishment come as quickly as possible."

Three days after Salih's warning, thunderbolts filled the air, followed by severe earthquakes, which destroyed the entire tribe and its homeland. The land was violently shaken, destroying all living creatures in it. There was one terrific cry, which had hardly ended when the disbelivers of Salih's people were struck dead, one and all, at the same time. Neither their strong buildings nor their homes could protect them.

All were destroyed before they realized what was happening. As for the people who believed in the message of Salih (PBUH), they were saved because they had left the place.

I hope you liked this story.
